Til

We celebrate the people who wear our label not just for how they look but for who they are and how they are Shy Heroes in their world. Models are also role models for women that view them and we think it is only right to say a little about who they are as humans and how we connected with their values. We would like to introduce you to Til.

Tilly Hope 23 year old tortured artìste otherwise known as Matilda. House/pet sitter with aspirations of being a fully realised swagperson, with weekends as a content creator/pack mother/drag bitch. When I see things I don't like or don't understand, I try to make sense of them through stories and created worlds. I feel happy and inspired when I meet people doing their thing, whatever it is, and strongly being themselves, whatever that means. New birth of new ideas, dreaming imagined dreams, navigating the strange waters of mental health and reaching out to one another through all the empty space.

How are you a Shy Hero? What are the things you stand for that you would like to promote more of in the world?
I am a shy hero when I talk to cats, dogs, frogs and other animal friends. Some people think its a little strange, but it helps us get to know each other better. I spend most of my time taking care of people's pets, and the rest of it worrying about what I'm going to do with my life, because I'm young and don't really have a plan. I love to experience different spheres of the world and people's different ways of existing in it.

I feel I'll be more qualified to make adjustments to the world when I'm better able to make those adjustments to myself. Although I think we could all do with being less afraid and more accepting.

How do you connect with Melbourne and it's natural surrounds?
Every time I pet-sit somewhere, I immediately find the nearest little pocket of nature. Melbourne habitat is so many different things to so many different people. As a shy hero, I recognise the beauty of a place that does not need to scream at you to be noticed but is quietly and unquestionably itself and proud to be. As a person, I am inspired by the beauty of a group of people who have captured the essence of that place, and are sharing it through their own beautiful, shyly heroic creativity.

What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is an important form of creative expression that I often use to either camouflage myself or be seen. What we wear and how we wear it are fundamental aspects of our everyday lives. Fashion is a way to say something, and it can be incredibly powerful when we express ourselves through it.

How did you feel modelling and what did you hope to communicate with your body to other women?
From the start of the day modelling for shy hero right to the end, we were immersed in an environment of enjoyment, acceptance and brilliance, a brilliance which helped us to rise and shine. Seeing and being inspired by all the amazing women we were surrounded by was an experience of being lifted up. I felt it when I was reassured that my hairy armpits were loved, I felt it in the comfortable and happy atmosphere of the shoot and the places we got to explore, and I felt it because I was treated as a person, and not a tool. Women are often easily cast aside for not being the 'right' kind of woman, or idealised for fitting a mold. Something I would hope to share with other women from my experience as a shy hero, is that I am the right kind of woman because I am a woman, I am here, and am therefore, beautiful. Your beauty is within, don't let anybody tell you that you don't possess it.

What is your favourite Shy Hero piece and why?
My favourite Shy hero stuff would have to be everything with bat birds and gum leaves on it, but my personal pick would be bat bird retreat pants and matching leaflet cami. I always get a feeling when I see bats and flying foxes of being in the right place. Melbourne is our place, and the flying foxes across the sky at dusk have been a part of my life since my life began. We're so lucky to be a part of a city built into one of the most naturally rich and beautifully understated places on earth.
